Ain't no mountain or ocean will keep Vancouver florists from delivering you the freshest flowers available.
Located on the west coast, Vancouver, British Columbia has been billed as one of Canada's most beautiful cities. The first settlers arrived in the 1860's and Vancouver was incorporated as a city in the 1886.
Thanks to its flourishing film and television industry, the city has been nicknamed "Hollywood North". Vancouver is second behind LA in television production and third behind Los Angeles and New York for films.
Vancouver is known for its snow peaked mountains, the ocean and its incredible forests making this the perfect vacation destination for nature loving tourists. One can kayak on the Seymour River, cycle through Stanley Park taking in the beauty of Vancouver flowers, plants and trees, or tackle the Grouse Grind. The latter is a hike up a 3,700 foot trail that takes you straight to the top of Grouse Mountain where you can catch a gondola back down. The average hike time is close to three hours.
Nature lovers may also want to visit the United Flower Growers Co-op Association Vancouver flower auction. The Vancouver flower auction is one of three in Canada, and the second largest of its kind in the world. It also happens to be one of the longest running flower auctions. Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Vancouver flower shop owners alongside wholesalers and flower buyers from the west coast of Canada and nearby US cities gather to bid on the plants and flora up for grabs at the Vancouver flower auction. The auction starts at 6 AM sharp so Vancouver florists and other buyers must arrive bright and early to inspect the product prior to the start of bidding. Most flower buyers are in and out within a few hours allowing them to get their purchased product to the shelf often on the same day it's been cut. The Vancouver flower auction works on a clock system that starts at the highest price and works its way backwards until there is a bidder. There are sometimes close to 3000 transactions each hour. Most of the product comes from Vancouver flower farmers who grow their product in fields and greenhouses down in the Fraser Valley. The auction sells potted plants, bunches, and flats of several varieties to local Vancouver florists, wholesalers, Vancouver flower nurseries and garden centers who in turn sell to end users. While the auction only allows owners of Vancouver flower shops and other industry professionals to purchase, it does allow visitors to sit in to watch the action. While it may require an extra early start to the day, the Vancouver flower auction is a must see for nature loving tourists visiting the city.
