Flowers for Mother's Day

The History of Mother's Day

While mothers are timeless, Mother's Day only came into being in 1908. Since it's creation, flowers have played a big part of this annual celebration. While tulips, roses, daisies, lilies, and peonies are the flowers most likely to fill gorgeous bouquets ordered in advance of Mother’s Day around this time of year, the flower originally associated with Mother’s Day was the carnation, which sons and daughters would wear in honor of their loving mothers on their special day.

With the commericialization of Mother's Day, flowers have become the go-to gift for Mother's Day, a way of showing our Mom's how important and precious they are to us. Who doesn't appreciate the beauty of a hand-arranged floral gift from their local florist? This is where our local florists "flourish" during this holiday. Flowers help bring a smile to the face of anyone who sees them.

Today, it’s a fair question as to whether carnations are still in vogue (the Wall Street Journal certainly seems to think so). But questions of taste and trendiness always come second to the preferences of Mom on her big day. Whenever in doubt about the perfect Mother’s Day gift, stick to what Mom knows and loves when choosing flower variety, color, arrangement, and vase.

Still not sure what to get for Mom? Find a local florist near you and show your Mom your love and appreciation on this special day!

Make sure your gift arrives in time with same-day delivery options from FindAFlorist. Send flowers from the heart, using a local florist.
