Memorial Day

Memorial Day is much more than a 3-day weekend to veterans, currently serving military, and the family and friends of those serving in the U.S. and overseas. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, recognition, and tribute to our fallen war heroes.

Memorial Day originated after the Civil War when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. As the years passed, the red poppy became a symbol of Memorial Day, a tradition that spread across the Atlantic and eventually developed into a VFW “Buddy Poppy Program” in which disabled veterans aided in the sale and distribution of artificial poppies to benefit war-orphaned children and widowed women. This Memorial Day, show your support for our fallen heroes with a red poppy, red white and blue arrangement, or even a traditional plant. Veterans, currently serving military and even parents and spouses of currently serving military will look upon a Memorial Day floral arrangement with pride, honor, and solemn remembrance.

There are hundreds of ways to use flowers to show gratitude toward the thousands of soldiers who bestowed great courage and sacrifice for our freedom. Your local florist is more than happy to help you design the perfect arrangement to say “thank you.” Find your local florist and ensure prompt delivery with Find A Florist’s same day delivery options.
